erasure maps
erasure maps is an emergent body of work that documents the speculative and performative place-making that occurs between human|landscape|nature|other-than. The work originated with drawing in graphite on graph paper and has expanded to incorporate poetry, printmaking, and other drawing materials and forms.
The work continues to evolve from single-sided drawings into double-sided renderings that are then folded into various interpretations of maps. Through different folding techniques such as those used for ordnance survey maps or the Turkish map fold, these folded drawings provide further ‘landscape’ to interrogate through performative acts of walking while folding/unfolding and reading/misreading the maps.
In 2024, the visual imagery that emerged from this body of work formed the basis of a period of printmaking exploration into RISO and Letterpress methods at the DCA Print Studio.
